Governance

Box Car Peggers is governed by a Board of Directors, elected by the club membership. The initial Board of Directors consists of five members, three officers and two members at large.

The President and one Member at Large are elected during odd-numbered years; the Secretary, Treasurer, and second Member at large during even‑numbered years. This alternation maintains continuity of operation. Note that term expire and new terms begin on September 1 of each year, coinciding with the new tournament season.

Current Board

  • President: Michael Turpin (term expires 2013) (Elected 12/26/2011 to replace Gordon Brown)
  • Secretary: Keith Johnson (term expires 2012)  (Replaced Eunice Kendall in March, 2012)
  • Treasurer: Page Ramos (term expires 2012)
  • Member at Large: Mark Linkiewicz (term expires 2012)
  • Member at Large: MaryBernadette  Wilcox (term expires 2013) (Elected 12/26/2011 to replace Michael Turpin, who was elected President that night)

The Board of Directors normally meets on the first Monday of each month to consider the business of the Club. All members are invited to attend the monthly Board meetings which are announced at a previous weekly tournament.

Statistician

The President appoints a statistician for the club who serves at the discretion of the President. The statistician is responsible for posting tournament results on the Grassrots website and preparing weekly statistical reports showing the final results of previous tournaments and standings for the title of Club Champion.

The Box Car Peggers' current Statistician is Jerry Wilcox. Mr. Wilcox is also the club's webmaster.

Annual Meeting and Elections

The Annual Meeting of the membership of the Box Car Peggers is held in May, after the end of the Tournament Season, or during the month of June. The date, time, and location is announced at least twice during the Weekly Tournament. Business transacted during the Annual Meeting includes:

  • Election of Directors and Officers to replace those whose term is expiring (note that there are no term limits—Officers and Directors whose terms are expiring may be reelected.)
  • Presentation of the final financial statement for the year
  • Presentation of the final statistical reports for the year, including announcement of the Club Champion
  • Such other business as may be brought before the membership

  • Secretary: Jennifer Halldorson (term will expire 2012)
  • Treasur er: Page Ramos (Re-elected; term will expire 2012)
  • Member at Large: Mark Linkiewicz (term will expire 2012)

2011 Election Results:

  • President:: Gordon Brown (term will expire 2013)
  • Member at Large: Michael Turpin (term will expire 2013)
